Biography
Alice Edleston was the daughter of Rev. Joseph Edleston, the Anglican vicar of Gainford. Despite this, Alice and her mother converted to Catholicism in 1880 and she opened a school for Catholic infants, St Colette’s, in the ground floor rooms of her property on High Row. Alice also regularly opened the gardens of Edleston House for village occasions and celebrations. She died in 1956.
