Biography
Princess Bamba Sofia Jindan Duleep Singh was born 29 September 1869 in London. She grew up in Elveden, Suffolk before finished her education at Somerville College at Oxford and at a medical school in Chicago, Illinois. Bamba travelled to India several times, and Bamba decided to settle in Lahore. There she met her future husband, Dr David Walters Sutherland, and the couple were married in 1915. Her husband returned to Scotland in c.1926 but Bamba stayed in Lahore. She was a suffragette and a supporter of Indian independence, with many revolutionaries as friends. Bamba died 10th March 1957, the last surviving member of the Duleep Singh family, and left a large collection of items of historical interest.
