Biography
The interviewee was born 29 October 1912, At Faeto, in the Foggia province. She was the sixth of nine children. At six years old, her father passed away from bronchitis. Her older brothers would tell her how much her father had loved the family and was a good man. However, she has no recollection of him. He worked in agriculture, living in America for a while. Her mother would help work once the youngest children had grown up. Her maternal grandmother passed away when she was young, but she remembers visits from her grandmother. Some of her brothers went to war, while others stayed in Italy. She went to school for a while, but would help with her young siblings. When ten years old, she began working in the fields. She met her husband in the town she grew up in, initially not interested in him, then grew on him as the years went by. They married in 1934, at age 22. Her husband became a prisoner of war and went through surgeries as he had lost sight in his eye. When he returned, she recalls he was not able to recognise his own children. Her husband passed away in 1986. During this time, she had moved to Bedford, England. She had many children, who lived in England.
