Biography
She was born 18 July 1932 in Cotton End. Her father was from Cotton End and her mother came from Houghton Conquest. Her father was a farm labourer, a worker in a crayon factory, and later still a storeman. She went to school in Shortstown. During the war, one of her brothers was in the ARP, and another was in the Royal Engineers. Her other brother went into the coal mines in Nottingham in order to avoid joining the army, as he was a conscientious objector. Her first job was in a clothing factory making school clothes. She then went to work as an office clerk at a builder's merchants. She then worked in child care for around 16 years, looking after children whose parents could not. Later in life, she visited people in her local area, for health and social visits, and for general assistance like shopping.
