Biography
She was born in Hartwell, Northamptonshire on 17 May 1941. Her father, a farmer, passed away before she knew him, having contracted anthrax. Her mother remarried when she was 13 and her two sisters and one brother had already left home. Her stepfather had been a Chief Petty Officer in the navy. She, her mother and her stepfather then moved to Cranfield, which she found very traumatic on account of losing all of her friends and not knowing anyone in the new area. To help her with her confidence, the headmaster made her a prefect and later vice-captain. Her stepfather kept her at school until she was 16, at which point she went to work at the brickworks. She worked in the post office for the works, then later in records. She met her future husband at this point, at work. Her husband was from Wootton, which led them to live there when they married. She left her job when she was pregnant with her first daughter, and stayed at home until her second daughter was 4 years old. At that point she worked for a general store as a van driver delivering groceries. She later worked for the Crown Court in Bedford, and then moved on to Victim Support, counselling victims of all sorts of crime. She retired from this role because of the stress it placed on her.
