Biography
She was born on 21 February 1901 as the 10th child of 11, 7 brothers and 3 sisters. She lived all her life in Marston Moretaine. She had 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Her father was a coal hawker who played the organ at the local chapel for 60 years. Her father died aged 92 years old. Her mother's maiden name was Robinson. Her mother was popular in the village as a source of helpful advice. She remembered unmade roads and stout shoes; childhood games like marbles; village schooling, and leaving school aged 13 years. She and her future husband courted for 13 years after they left school, and married at 26 years old. Her husband, Stan, gave up drinking in order to please her and became an active Christian, becoming a steward for many years. He worked in the local brickworks. She worked for a time at an electric lamp factory. She was a lifelong chapel-goer. She went on holidays at Yarmouth annually. She was looked after by a daughter, as well as in nursing homes, in old age. She was left-handed and was bad at the piano. Her husband was captain of the local cricket club and allowed no bad language from the players.
