Biography
The interviewee was born 26 July 1930 in Peterborough. Her father was originally from Yorkshire but moved to Peterborough for work. Her mother is from a village outside Peterborough. Her family moved to Marston in 1932. Her father was an electrical engineer for Marston Valley Co. brickworks. Company house. She recalls other families moving there from Peterborough. She attended a Catholic convent school in Bedford. When leaving school, her first job was as a sales assistant at the Bedford department store, where she worked for ten years. She recalls the work, including rationing during the Second World War and customers' monthly accounts. Later in life, she married and had a child. She attended a night-school short-hand typing course after 12 years as a mother. She started an office job at London Brick Co. at Stewartby brickworks. Her husband was a mechanic there, where he was made redundant after twenty years.
