Biography
The interviewee was born in Odell, Bedfordshire on 26 April 1913. She went to a private school in Harold before attending a Quaker school in Saffron Walden from the age of 10 to 15 years old. At 16 she went to work at a dairy farm in Kempston, and then to do market gardening. She joined the Women’s Land Army in August 1940 and went to work at a private farm in Northampton, then to a farm in Willington where she would farm horses. She was later made a forewoman and would look after and teach girls at the farm. She would also help do in-service training as a tutor at Ravensden. She would complete various courses during her service, such as Proficiency tests with milking, and a correspondence course in agriculture. She was later awarded the British Empire Medal for her service. She had a husband and two daughters.
