Family miscellanea, including several letters to Princess Sophia Duleep Singh from her brothers Victor and Edward and others, dated 1890-1904

Edward Alexander Duleep Singh was born in 1879 but died in 1893 and was buried in Elveden, Suffolk.

Victor Albert Jay Duleep Singh was born 10 July 1866 in London. He was educated at Eton and Cambridge University and in 1887 he entered the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. In December of that year, Victor was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 1st Royal Dragoons. Victor would continue to serve in the 1st Royal Dragoons, including service in Nova Scotia, until 1898 when he resigned his commission. The same year, Victor married Lady Anne Coventry, the first time an Indian Prince married into the English nobility, and this was largely possible due to the intervention of the Prince of Wales. However, it is rumoured that Queen Victoria told Lady Anne to never have children with the Prince and the marriage remained childless. In 1902, Victor was declared bankrupt with debts totalling £117,900. He died on 7 June 1918 in Monte Carlo, aged 51. His wife would outlast him by nearly forty years.
