Biography
Barbara Roscoe (nee Spark) was born on 11 April 1936 and grew up in North Wales. She was a leading female climber of the 1960s and a member of the Pinnacle Club. In 1965 she started a teacher training course in Outdoor Activities at Bangor University, the first in the UK. Barbara became the first woman to hold the Mountaineering Instructor Advanced Certificate. She married her fellow teacher at Bangor, Don Roscoe, in 1975. She died on 27 March 2019, after a 14-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
