Biography
Hester Norris was an early female alpinist and a member of the Midland Association of Mountaineers from 1949 to 1965. She was born c.1910 near Preston and was one of two children of a clergyman. She was a secretary to the headmaster at Rydal boarding school in Colwyn Bay and spent most of her summer holidays from the 1930s to the 50s climbing, particularly in the Alps, Switzerland. She suffered a stroke in 1955 which put an end to her mountaineering activities.
