Biography
Peggy Eveline Brown was born in 1915 in Lewisham to Herbert James Brown and Grace Eveline Pratt. After Herbert died in active combat, Grace remarried vicar Stanley Layton Petrie in 1919 and the family moved to the vicarage at Holy Trinity, Stockton. Peggy worked as a German language teacher and in 1933 she took a sabbatical year in Dresden, Germany. Her visit coincided with the ascent to the government of Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi Party). Peggy died in North Yorkshire in 1995.
