Biography
Lady Joanna Maria Bonham-Carter (née Smith) was born in 1791, one of 10 children of abolitionist MP William Smith and his wife Frances Coape. Her sister Frances was the mother of Florence Nightingale. Joanna married MP and barrister John-Bonham Carter in 1816, at the age of 25, and had seven children. She died in April 1884, in her nineties.
